PELION PENINSULA, GREECE | 15 - 22 JUNE 2019
Kick start your summer with a week of yoga, delicious food, sun and relaxation in gorgeous Greece
What better way to start your summer than a week of Greek sun in our gorgeous cliff top villa, complete with its own infinity pool and private beach. Practise yoga morning and evening on our choice of yoga platforms with panoramic sea views; relax and take in the spectacular views from our terrace, keeping an eye out for dolphins in the bay below; cool down with a dip in our pool, or snorkel in the clear, calm sea; or maybe walk, swim or take our private motor boat to a local taverna or one of the many small beaches along this stretch of coastline. Return home feeling revived and rejuvenated!
All of our 2018 retreats sold out more than 6 months in advance. So to secure your spot with just a 25% deposit click here!
We'll practise yoga morning and evening. Start your day with an energising but mindful vinyasa flow, with panoramic views of the sea and Pelion mountain beyond. You'll set yourself up for the day ahead by moving in time with your breath and strengthening and stretching all your major muscle groups. There will be ample opportunity for personal attention, and to deepen your practice by learning how to adapt the postures to best suit the needs of your own body. After practice perhaps choose to cool down in the crystal clear sea below, following the steps that lead directly from our yoga terrace to our own private diving platform.
Each evening we'll wind down with a calming and grounding practice drawing on yin and restorative styles of yoga, rounded off with a guided relaxation. You'll float out of our evening sessions feeling relaxed, renewed and restored. In addition, we will also practise some simple meditation and breathing techniques that are perfect for keeping the stress free vibe going even after you get back home to real life. Additional private or small group sessions are available on request. We will provide yoga mats, blocks and bolsters, but you are of course very welcome to bring your own if you prefer. One day mid week will be kept free of classes to allow you time to rest, explore further afield or develop your own practice.
Enjoy exceptional vegetarian meals carefully prepared by our cook with fresh, daily and locally sourced produce. After working up an appetite on your mat, brunch will be served on our terrace overlooking the sea. Feast on delicious Greek yoghurt and honey, seasonal fruit salads, nuts and seeds, pastries, eggs, omelettes and frittata, all washed down with freshly squeezed juices, teas and coffees. Our hosts even make their own extra virgin olive oil from olives harvested on their estate.
After our evening practice round off the day with a delicious 3 course dinner. On one evening we will head in to a nearby village to eat at a traditional local taverna. Our fridge will also be kept fully stocked with Greek yoghurt, fruit, nuts and seeds in case you get peckish during the day.
Our house is built of local stone, totally in keeping with the surrounding landscape, and blends naturally into the contours of the hillside. It is flanked by olive trees and the natural flora of the Pelion forests. We have our own spectacular infinity pool with panoramic sea views. Dolphins have been spotted in the bay below in the summer months on several occasions. This area is also a well-known yachter’s paradise, and we will have a small motor boat available for use if you wish.
Each of the clean and comfortable bedrooms has sea views and individually controlled air conditioning. We have double, twin and triple rooms available. If you are coming with a friend or two please let us know, so we can make sure you are all in the same room! Or if you prefer a bit more space to yourself perhaps choose our ‘Writer’s Retreat’ – a separate stone annex with a lounge on the ground floor, its own private terrace and mezzanine level bedroom.
Our venue is set on the side of a cliff on the Pelion peninsula of mainland Greece, with stunning 180 degree sea views. If you’ve never heard of sleepy but beautiful Pelion, check out what Conde Nast Traveller has to say here or Lonely Planet here. Pelion combines both mountains and sea and according to legend was the summer residence of the twelve Gods of Olympus and the mythical country of the Argonauts and the Centaurs. We will be just a 10 minute walk along our private beach from the nearest village, where you’ll find a village shop and choice of tavernas.
We think you could easily spend a week just relaxing in the sun and taking in the views from our beautiful villa. But if you’re feeling more adventurous our pretty nearest village with its tavernas is just a 10 minute walk away. The footpath to the village leads across our private beach. There are also stunning longer walks from our doorstep along the coastal footpath to neighbouring larger villages, with many hidden sandy coves waiting to be discovered en route.
A week here would not be complete without a dip in the calm sea below our villa. Snorkelling is also very popular in this area. You can access the sea via steps that lead directly from our yoga terrace down over the rocks (perfect for cooling off after morning practice!). We also have a small motorboat available for use if you would like to explore the beaches further along the coast. One day mid week will be kept free of yoga classes to give you time to explore further afield, rest or develop your own practice. You can also choose to book a massage with our lovely English speaking masseuse.
You can choose to have your own room, to have your own bed in a shared room (either twin or triple occupancy), or to live it up in your own separate annex with private terrace. How do I get there?
Volos is our nearest airport, and is approximately 1.5 hours drive from our villa. At the time of writing Monarch Airlines and Small Planet airlines both offer seasonal charter flights from the UK to Volos.
Our nearest large airport is Thessaloniki, which both Easyjet and Ryanair fly to direct from London. It is about a 3 hour drive to our retreat from Thessaloniki. Another option is to fly to Athens airport, which has flights from all over the world and is around a 4 hour drive from our retreat. Previous guests flying into Athens have taken the opportunity to do a bit of sight seeing before heading to our villa. We can help you arrange transfers from any Greek airport – just let us know which flights you’re coming on.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely, lots of guests on our retreats arrive independently. There is always a warm and welcoming atmosphere with communal activities available, plus ample opportunity for you to take some quiet time for yourself too.
I'm coming with a friend. Will we be in the same room?
Each person will need to reserve their space in our main house individually so that we have their details. But of course if you let us know when you have both booked we will do our best to make sure you're sharing. We have double, twin and triple rooms. You can always drop us a line to check on availability beforehand if you want to make sure!
Is it all group activities or can I take some quiet me time?
We will eat brunch and dinner together and people often group together to go on trips, take a walk or just have a chat. But everyone is also positively encouraged to take time to themselves to read, take a stroll on the beach, relax with a swim, go on a solo adventure or just nap in their room.
How many people will there be in class?
Numbers will be limited to a maximum of 14 people, so lots of opportunity for individual attention. Please be aware that our last retreat sold out 6 months in advance, but you can secure your spot on this one now with just a 25% deposit.
I have a question - is there someone I can speak to?
Of course! You can message Olivia directly through our contact form with any questions you might have.
What if I reserve a place then can't make it?
If your circumstances change and you cannot make the retreat in June 2019, we will try to fill your place. If either we or you can fill your empty space we will refund your deposit to you. We normally have a waiting list for our retreats. So if you do realise you can't attend let us know as soon as possible and we can speak to them on your behalf!
What have other people thought of your retreats?
“I thought the yoga was great, the food was delicious, my room and the villa was absolutely delightful, and the company was lovely. Thank you for organising such a lovely week! It was much needed, massively relaxing, and I learnt loads too, as well as it being tons of fun.” (Anna, 2018) . Or see more reviews of our retreats here!
